You might think to yourself, why should I learn to relax? Why do I have to deal with stress? Stress is almost an integral part of our daily lives. Well, making relaxation a routine may seem like something out of reach, but you will be astonished at how you can de-stress your life easily. You can train not only your mind to relax, but your body as well. So here are some tips for reaching a calm state in no time. 

The Mind

Breathing:

We breathe 24/7, so you’d think we’d be good at it, but we’re not. Breathing for relaxation is different than normal breathing. With proper breathing, you’re inhaling slowly and deeply, holding the breath for a count of 3, and then exhaling slowly. There are several breathing techniques you can learn and do several times a day. Breathing settles your nerves, and there’s a reason why we say take a deep breath when someone is stressed or anxious about something.

Meditation:

We sometimes get carried away and think of our past, present, and future all at the same time. It is truly mind-boggling! Meditation helps to keep you grounded in the present. Its goal is to make you mindful of your surroundings, your body and spirit at that point in time. 

Guided imagery:

Is there a place you’d love to be at right now? Guided imagery helps you to imagine a place that you want to be in, a place with a certain atmosphere that calms you. You can find many audiotapes to help you by describing places, be it a beach or mountain, and the sorts. 

The Body

Progressive muscle relaxation:

This involves tensing a muscle, and then releasing it. Keeping your arms at chest length and pressing your palms against each other and then releasing is an example. It helps nicely with muscle tension. Again, you can find plenty of muscle relaxation techniques online.

CBD:

CBD stands for Cannabidiol, which is a compound extracted from the hemp plant. If you don’t have a tub, a hot shower can also be just as effective when you stay under it long enough to loosen tense muscles. 

There are many choices when it comes to finding ways to relax. But make sure it’s not a decision that stresses you out in itself. When we relax, we tend to have a clearer and calmer mind, which increases focus, aids positive thinking, and lets you make better decisions. And the best way to do it is to combine both body and mind exercises that focus on relaxation. So sit back, kick your legs up, and let the relaxation begin!
